My favorite part?

Andrea

  • The Sunday party, the Baltimore Museum of Industry was such a cool location, great views, music was amazing (thanks DJ Cokie and DJ Dark Rum), and it was the perfect ending.

Alexa

  • For me the dinner before the Saturday social was the best. It was all of Cedric’s favorite music, and such a special touch to celebrate his birthday.

An Area of Improvement

Andrea

  • The Friday party. The space was great. The sound wasn’t very clear in certain parts of the room and since there was a class, I wanted another hour of dancing.

Alexa

  • I think maybe a sign-up sheet for the provided transportation beforehand would have been helpful. That way as an organizer you can get a good idea about the amount of transport you need to get for the weekend.

Overall Takeaways

Huge thank you to Cedric, your heart and soul went into this event and we really felt it. This weekend was so special, truly unforgettable. There was so much relationship building, laughs, dances, and love.

Breaking the weekend down, Friday was a great way to kick off the weekend. We took advantage of the provided transportation to the venue. Wow that venue was epic, I mean it was huge with beautiful floor, a dancer’s dream. We enjoyed the music, and felt like it set a good tone for the weekend.

Only Alexa took a class, from Yanek and Yisel, but the class was great and offered great cultural context, technique, and creativity. All of the instructors chosen for the weekend offered something different, which as an attendee gives you maximum learning opportunities. We’re not just referring to the types of classes offered, but the ways in which they interact with Cuban dance and music. From multiple people we heard about how they enjoyed the classes and new things they learned.

Saturday was truly a day of togetherness. Anytime we can share meals together, we feel it helps the weekend go beyond just dancing. Look, and those mini hamburgers from lunch were delicious. The night party had a unique touch by playing Cedric’s favorite music while we enjoyed dinner (which was also delicious). We were touched to see and hear about the number of people who have impacted Cedric’s life. The space had carpet floor with mounted dance floor sections. We personally had no issue with the floors. It looked like everyone had enough space. The music was also off the charts, and absolutely no complaints from us about the sets. It was extremely hard for us to sit down because of how good the music was.

The Sunday panel was a great insight into different opinions about dance, community, and culture from very prominent figures in the Cuban dance scene. If you’d like to watch this panel (filmed by Dile Que Nola) featuring Duane Wrenn/Yanek Revilla/Ramses Sariol/ Daybert Linares) click here. From there the Sunday social was a blast, and that venue was stunning. An absolute amazing end to an epic weekend.

As an attendee, it is always great to feel like all you have to worry about is dancing and having fun. Details like transportation and workshops being at the same place you’re staying really simplify your attendee experience. That’s exactly what this weekend was. So huge thank you to Cedric and the whole organizer team. While this was a weekender, it was also a birthday celebration which balanced both of those things.
