Dancing in Brooklyn: Industry City

We are always looking for where to dance when we travel. This past weekend we had the chance to dance in Brooklyn for a night, and wanted to share our experience at Industry City. In today’s post we provide an overview of the event alongside our opinions on the music, dance, and vibes.

Overview: The event takes place Friday nights at Industry City from 10pm to 2am in Courtyards 5/6. It takes place outdoors on a patio-like area. There was mostly concrete, so plan shoes accordingly. There was free water, and a nearby bar. Fliers advertise the event as having “Salsa, Bachata, and more”. DJ Gagou played tunes.

Music: We really enjoyed the music. The Salsa and Bachata played had us vibing all night. We could always use more Timba (no surprises there), nonetheless every Timba played was quality. Plus we appreciate anyone who plays Timba. Also, there was a good rotation of music giving every style a chance to dance and take breaks. We also want to take a moment to appreciate the Merengue which was awesome. Some people were also playing live instruments, which we felt was a nice touch.

Dance: Our first dance was to Locos por Mi Habana, and it is so funny how Casineros just find each other, but we ended up with a 3 couple Rueda. We danced some quality Casino as well. Seeing fellow Casineros always warms our hearts. Andrea even danced an Salsa on 2. It was great that the event truly felt open to all levels of dancers, and it challenged our expectations. We expected to see a bunch of really experienced dancers, but there was a really good mix. Of course, there was a lot of on2 dancing, but we also saw some great Bachata and Merengue dances taking place.

Other: One thing we found difficult was it was hard to find info on social media regarding the event. We did appreciate the free water available. Also, the location felt very safe. It also a short walk from the subway, we had no issue getting there.

Vibes: We loved the vibes. The event felt so dynamic. We loved how a lot of people were watching too, and they felt like everyone’s hype team. It being outdoors was super nice. Overall the space just felt nice to be in. Everyone was friendly, and we saw so many people with friends.

If you’re in the area, we highly recommend you check it out, and we would love to return. Have you ever been to Industry City for Friday nights? If so let us know what you loved about it. Remember to subscribe for updates.

Bueno…ya tu sabes.
